“Understand Your Business Application Usage”

eXert brings a new and unique class of monitoring software to the iSeries/System i not previously available from an independent software vendor – that of Application Usage Management.

eXert addresses the many different needs in the increasingly complex environment of managing your business applications and software asset management on your iSeries/System i. Being in control of Application Usage is much more than just knowing if you are in compliance with your software licence. IT Executives need to see the full picture – usage, security, licence compliance and regulatory compliance.

eXert is a product that enables companies using the iSeries/System i to take control of application software usage, licence monitoring/auditing and to manage licence & support costs, together with the IT governance of any application, vendor supplied or in-house developed.

eXert will enable you to prove conclusively how many users (concurrent or named) you have and keep you in compliance with your software licence. It will show you exactly who is using your applications, when and where and help you to identify any application usage security risks. In doing so it lays the foundation for regulatory compliance (SOX, Basel II, PCIDSS etc).

Demonstration Videos

There are two products in the eXert range:-

eXert Controller is the "entry level" product which allows you to get started with low risk and to explore the potential benefits at a low cost.

eXert Manager is the full Enterprise version of the product with significantly greater functions and capability.

Analysis: How it’s Done

Software usage data is collected on the target iSeries/System i5 machine(s) and collated back to a controlling PC. The users (concurrent / unique / named) are tracked over a pre-determined time frame against the business applications you specify. Usage data can be collected across multiple time zones and across multiple servers through the use of “time management concurrency” to ensure that accurate data is collected.

Reporting

eXert has standard reports available to show the configuration tables you have set up. Pre-defined template reports are available using graphs and charts which assist in trend analysis and can be used to provide documentary evidence of licence compliance. These show data such as the number of users per hour / day / month, the number of users per package, the number of users per server, users accessing multiple IP addresses etc. Other examples are:-

-     unauthorised access of applications
-     departmental usage for cross charging
-     out of hours usage

Additionally, it is straightforward to set up your own (complex) reports using the Report Writer wizard and the data dictionary provided. Drill down capabilities are available.

Licensing

eXert licensing is geared to today’s needs. With the advent of Software as a Service (SaaS) being increasingly used to manage software licensing costs “on demand”, eXert is offered on a term licensing basis from one to five years. The eXert software still sits in-house to give you full control whilst offering the benefits of a smooth, subscription based pricing model, short term or long term.

Alternatively, a perpetual licensing option is available with a one-time licence fee plus annual support & maintenance.
