Why? Where did the iSeries/System i5 security go?
The iSeries/System i5 environment has always been considered as one of the safest operating systems on the market. However, connecting it to the Internet and opening it up to the world of eBusiness, using tools such as TCP/IP, the IFS, TELNET, FTP and ODBC, has in fact exposed the iSeries/System i5 environment to access from external networks without the ability to supervise and monitor this access.
Additional Considerations
Perhaps surprisingly, up to 65% of security breaches come from internal sources, purposefully or in error. Hence, the need for policy based access control, both internal and external, to critical resources has become a key issue.

StandGuard Recycle Bin
StandGuard Recycle Bin is simply a “Windows-style” recycle bin for the iSeries/System i5 IFS and shared folders. Has an important file ever been deleted from your system? It's happened to us all, whether deleted by accident, by a virus, or by a disgruntled employee. Such files, at best, require time-consuming restoration from backup and at worst are gone forever.
That no longer has to be the case … enter StandGuard Recycle Bin allowing such files to be easily restored by the administrator. It is unique in the iSeries/System i5 marketplace and won the Search400 Security Product of the Year.
Designed specifically for the iSeries/System i5, StandGuard Recycle Bin protects your data from accidental or intentional deletion using a holding area or "recycle bin" much like that found on Windows systems. StandGuard Network Security
StandGuard Network Security is a native iSeries/System i5 security solution that utilises an object-based design to allow you to effectively and unobtrusively protect assets and manage resources on your network. Using a unique, phased-in implementation methodology, StandGuard Network Security puts unprecedented power in your hands to create and implement a security policy without disrupting business operations.
When a PC user utilises their 5250 user ID and password in an application such as Microsoft Excel or uses the FTP capability built-in to every Windows-based PC, they will potentially have unlimited access to the company’s data. PC access (via Client Access/iSeries Access) gives your users the ability to easily see, copy and/or delete iSeries directories, files and/or their content from their PC desktop.
The latest release, launched in July 2006, monitors and protects all exit points that can be used to access data or run commands, securing more than 120 server functions. Users can create public and private authorities, server functions, database objects, IFS objects, programs, and commands. The new release adds automated PTF updates and 16 additional predefined reports. It also supports supplemental group profiles and location group profiles.
Monitoring & Notification
StandGuard provides real-time monitoring of the OS/400 or i5/OS Security Audit Journal, the most important place where security-related events are logged.
